Investment-worthy Item Number One.

Trudon Candles

Celebrated worldwide, Trudon is the oldest candlemaker, founded on Rue Saint-Honoré in 1643.

From the unforgettable fragrances formulated by master perfumers to the exquisite champagne-bucket-inspired glass vessels handmade in Italy, Trudon has perfected its craft throughout its hundreds of years of experience.

Rich in history and quality, Trudon determined the scent of Louis XIV's royal court centuries before we started appreciating the candles as statement pieces for our homes.

Another investment-worthy item is the La Promeneuse and cameos, the most divine-smelling wax melts and melting dishes. The evocative fragrance and slow burn of the La Promeneuse is a daily ritual for me as I light it before my morning meditation.

Here are just some of the reasons I believe Trudon candles are investment-worthy:

  1. Trudon products are handmade in Normandy, France.

  2. The wicks are made of quality cotton.

  3. The wicks are hand positioned in the centre and cut at a specific height to ensure an optimal first burn.

  4. Upon completion, each candle comes in a customised box, recognisable with the Trudon emblems and attributes affixed by hand.

  5. The vessels are champagne bucket inspired.
  6. These vessels can be reused as vases, ice buckets, or decorative containers. Simply put the candle in the freezer to dry the remaining wax before removing it and washing the vessel.

  7. The Trudon wick extinguisher forms the ideal companion to your candle care routine.

I believe two of the most iconic Trudon candle fragrances are Abd El Kadar and Ernesto.

Candle Care:

For a smoke-free candle, remember to trim your wicks before each use and extinguish the candle by submerging the wick in its wax pool or using a candle extinguisher instead of blowing it out, as both of these measures help prevent smoke.

Investment-worthy Item Number Three.

Custom Sofas

As opposed to machine-manufactured imported sofas, custom-made sofas allow the craftsman's ideas, hands, skill, and interpretation to come together and create a bespoke piece that is uniquely yours.

A hand-upholstered or slipcovered sofa, modular or armchair, ensures the maker is intimately connected with suspension systems, lumbar support, and ergonomic design to bring your vision to life and design a sofa that will last for years to come.

As comfort level is personal, we recommend trialing your custom sofa for seat height, depth, and support, as they are never a one size fits all item.

When investing in a custom sofa, consider the following:

  • Look for frames crafted from kiln-dried hardwood.

  • Denser hardwoods such as poplar, maple, teak, or walnut are structurally sound and have a higher likelihood of being reupholstered or slipcovered.

  • Look for no-sag steel springs or black-cat webbing seat suspension systems.

  • Request lined seat cushions, so the feathers don’t poke through.

Lastly, consider your current interior decor style.

Slipcovered sofas look fantastic in coastal, Hamptons, French country, and Belgian style interiors, offering a more organic look that contributes to a soft, welcoming, and lived-in feel.

Upholstered sofas and occasional chairs look beautiful in classic contemporary, urban Industrial, Parisian, and Scandinavian interiors, offering a refined, elegant look that contributes to a streamlined feel.

Investment-worthy antique decor for French country style

These could also be those special pieces that capture your attention and tell a story about who you are and what you love most.

For example, I love sourcing original oil portraits in gilt frames, etchings, leather-bound books, or handcrafted sculptures from recycled vintage materials.

Other ideas include:

  • Botanical art, trinket boxes, old binoculars, vintage trophies, wax sculptures, quality pewter, beautiful wallpaper, handmade jewellery, leather-bound books, French chandeliers, antique clocks, crystal glassware & ceramics, and objects softened by age and patina.

All these items feature an original quality that will hold their value for years, both physically, emotionally, and psychologically.

Quality Cutlery

Investing in stainless steel flatware is fabulous for everyday use because it's easy to care for, stylish, long-lasting, and offers a streamlined appeal.

While solid sterling silver flatware features luxe quality and intrinsic value, it requires consistent upkeep, hand-washing & polishing to avoid tarnishing.

Since the average homemaker only buys three sets of cutlery in a lifetime, it is worth researching the options available to satisfy your purchase.

18/10 cutlery worth the investment

Standard finishes include satin, mirror, burnished, and vintage, with satin being a great everyday option as it is less prone to watermarks and fingerprints.

Stainless steel cutlery features various grades, including 18/10, 18/8, and 18/0, indicating the chromium and nickel ratio. For example, 18/10 stainless steel offers the highest quality and durability and has 18% chrome and 10% nickel.

If you are looking at investing in a new set of cutlery, we recommend either 18/10 or 18/8 for the following reasons:

18/10 stainless steel

  • Contains the highest amount of nickel (10%)

  • Highest quality and durability

  • Highly resistant to corrosion

  • Maintains lustre well

  • Hand wash recommended

  • Ideal for fine dining and formal events

Rattan Homewares

Lastly, as mentioned in a recent video (here), rattan is known to be one of the strongest materials and is incredibly versatile, environmental-friendly, and stylish.

From decorative trays to boxes, storage baskets, furniture, lighting, and decor, rattan is an investment in quality that can last a lifetime.

I personally find rattan to be the ideal complement to the relaxed country, coastal, Hamptons, or Belgian design style, as well as an intentional accent to counterbalance contemporary spaces.
