STYLING TIP #1: Select your Colour Palette

Creating a serene and harmonious space begins with the colour palette.
Select a foundation that is calm and soothing and allows the eyes to rest.

Transform your existing furniture to suit the room with a few coats of our favourite Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. This can be done for your bedsides, chest of drawers, and even lamp bases, for a new look.

Dark & Moody

Create a cocoon-like feel with deep violets, blues, graphite, and black accents for an intimate and cozy space.

Soft Pastels

Muted celadon greens, duck-egg blues, pale pinks and lavender allow the eyes to soften and promote restful sleep.

Monochromatic

A monochromatic colour palette is streamlined, harmonious, and unfussy, allowing textural elements and prints to truly shine.

Warm Neutrals

Chalky whites, ivory, taupe, tan, warm greys & clays, layered alongside natural textures, create an earthy & serene environment.

BEDROOM STYLING TIP #2: Bedroom Furniture & Storage

When selecting furniture, consider the room's primary purpose. If your guest bedroom is strictly used for sleeping, then a generous size bed and statement bedhead can be the star of the room.
However, if the space serves a dual purpose as a home office, games room, or living space, consider a smaller day bed or sofa bed, allowing for ample room for additional furniture.

You can shop our bedroom furniture collection here.

Mirrors: Include a full-length and shorter wall-mounted mirror so that guests can get ready in the morning.

Bed & Bedhead: Layer the bed with a tufted headboard and dress in quality bedding to offer a customisable level of comfort.

Bedside tables: structured bedside tables with hidden storage to hold a candle, alarm clock, table lamp, or water carafe.

Storage: Luggage holders, coat stands and hooks with good quality hangers serve well so that guests can store or hang clothes. An end-of-bed bench or ottoman offers somewhere to place luggage, extra blankets, towels, or a tea tray.

Shop your home: Repurpose, reinvent, and re-use! No bedside table? Swap for a footstool, chest, or low-sitting chair. No desk? Swap for a narrow console or built-in ledge. No built-in wardrobe? Swap for a coat-stand or wall-mounted hooks.

Additional seating: An inviting armchair or comfortable desk chair so that longer-staying guests can read or perform routine tasks in the comfort of their own room.

BEDROOM & BATHROOM STYLING TIP #3: Cosy & Plush Soft Furnishings and Towels

Enhance your bedroom with timeless textures and materials such as cosy sheepskins, super soft bedding, and decorative cushions and throws for an added element of cultivated comfort. Some of our favourite fabrics are Belgian flax linens, silk, velvet, chunky wool knits, and simple, crisp white cotton for a hotel-like feel.

  • Bath Towels: We recommend two face towels, 2 hand towels, and two bath towels per person.
  • Bedding: start with your mattress topper/protector, pillow protectors, fitted, and bottom sheet. Finish the bed with a beautiful bedspread, comforter or quilt, a soft blanket, and some gorgeous cushions to add visual interest and tie in with your colour palette.
  • Throws: Keep an additional lightweight throw sprawled across your end-of-bed ottoman or armchair to allow guests to curl up. Our all-time favourite is the Brogo super soft micro mink blankets.

BEDROOM STYLING TIP #4: Add Ambience & Warmth with Lighting

Layers of light are also important in the bedroom. You need a task light for reading, a ceiling light on dimmers for overall everyday light, and a low-level lighting ambiance.

  • Accent lighting: If your bedside lacks space, swap a table lamp for an adjustable sconce light instead.
  • Ambient lighting: Statement overhead lighting, ceiling pendants, drum pendants, or LED's on a dimmer.
  • Task lighting: A bedside table or floor lamp positioned near your additional seating serves as your primary light source for reading and soft illumination. Task lighting also allows you to showcase your unique design flair with unique lamp bases and pops of colour.
  • Candles: Adding pre-lit, gently scented candles will make the space smell amazing while illuminating any darker corners of the bedroom.

Fresh-cut greenery, faux plants, trailing vines, flowers, or potted plants brings living energy into your space.

Glass vases, decanters, candleholders, hand mirrors, or crystals.

BEDROOM STYLING TIP #7: Add Comfort Underfoot: Bedside Rugs

  • Little Luxuries: A plush, fluffy sheepskin rug is the perfect anecdote for the colder winter months.
  • Nook rugs: designed for even the smallest of spaces, the Armadillo nook Rugs are perfect for placing at the bedside.
  • Cotton Dhurrie: add a pop of colour with a lightweight dhurrie rug. They are easy to clean and serve as a vibrant accent.

BEDROOM STYLING TIP #8: Window Treatments

  • Light-filled & invigorating: soft white semi-sheer blinds or curtains allows natural light to diffuse into the space.
  • Cozy & luxe: For the ultimate restful space that absorbs sound, hang some floor-to-ceiling curtains or thick blackout blinds.

BATHROOM STYLING TIP #9: Stylish Storage

  • Wall Mounted Shelving: Perfect for small spaces to save floor space while drawing the eye up.
  • Towel Bars, Hooks & Ladders: Install towel bars, hooks, or a free-standing ladder for towels and robes.
  • Bar Trolleys: Include a bar trolley on wheels for a colonial feel whilst offering shelf space for smaller items.
  • Rattan Baskets & Trays: Store hand and face towels, slippers, plants, toilet paper, and bath and body products.
  • Apothecary Jars: A decorative & functional way to store sponges, loofas, body brushes, bath salts, bath bombs, coral & shells.
  • Bath Trays: Keep your everyday items close while offering a platform for your favourite bath-time beverage, book, and self-care items.
  • Free Standing Shelves or Etagere: If room permits, a free-standing bookshelf, etagere, or sideboard buffet is perfect for storing away larger items whilst still showcasing some decorative pieces, greenery, and toiletries.

BATHROOM STYLING TIP #10: Spa-like Details

"The details are not the details. They make the design."- Charles Eames

  • Indulge: Recreate the spa experience at home with a facial towel steamer, essential oil diffuser, or a two-panel bath pillow.
  • Remove or replace the shower curtain: Removing or replacing your outdated, pre-existing shower curtains will modernise the space.
  • Towels: Investing in beautiful, quality-made plush towels will add longevity and comfort and add that hotel-like feel to your bathroom.
  • Bath & Body Products: We love having a balance of luxury bath and body products, such as soaps, hand-lotions and bubble baths, alongside everyday essentials such as loofas, body brushes, and Epson salts for an indulgent experience for you and your guests.
  • Keep Functional Items Hidden: Incorporate tissue boxes, waste bins, and toilet brushes made from rattan or sleek, minimal designs and keep cleaning products out of sight for a clean, streamlined look.
