Want to create a hotel feel at home?
I adore hotels and always have! I love the excitement of exploring new hotels and returning to treasured favourites.
From the luxury bed linen to the uncluttered environment, the fluffy bath towels, gorgeous amenities, layered lighting, black-out-blinds, and temperature control. These are just some of the ways to create the hotel feel at home.
A memorable hotel embodies what I believe most; that the beauty is in the detail. It is about anticipating your needs and creating personalised and unique experiences.
I also love an atmospheric hotel lounge or bar to unwind and share a drink with my partner, family, or friends, or to meet other travellers, and share stories and places of interest.

Hotel Feel at Home Tip #1
Positive Associations
Start by making a list of the positive qualities you associate with hotels:
For me, this includes:
- A sense of comfort
- Calm
- Creativity
- Relaxation
- Cleanliness
- Indulgence
- & Inspiration
For example, I find a sense of comfort, cleanliness, and calm results in an increased surge of creativity.
As a stylist, I also draw endless inspiration from a hotel's magnificent architecture or decor.
I could action this by prioritising closed storage solutions and setting aside time to clean each day. Surrounding myself with items that remind me of my travels, such as a certain fragrance, music playlist, antique piece of decor, or plush blanket could help spark inspiration.

Declutter & Organise
The simplest way is to declutter and create an ordered living, bedroom, and bathroom space. Incorporate hidden storage solutions, such as decorative boxes, refillable soap and toiletries dispensers, stylish tissue box holders, and trays.
This includes finding ways to hide power boards, cords, and chargers.
Other ideas:
- Declutter your bedside tables so that only the necessary items are on display.
- Use rattan, ceramic, leather, or nickel holders to cover everyday tissue boxes.
- Store your bedroom or bathroom necessities in lidded boxes or beautiful containers.
- Pack away hair tools into a vanity cupboard or into a drawstring bag that could hang on a hook on the back of the door.

Hotel Bedding
When was the last time you updated your bed linen, invested in quality pillows, or rotated and vacuumed your mattress?
Freshly laundered bed linen, plush pillows, a luxurious mattress topper and protector, and adjustable layers will instantly transform your sleep sanctuary.
For a refined feel, opt for a monochrome palette. Alternatively, other elegant colours include white, ivory, black, taupe, green, beige, khaki, grey, and pastels.
Bonus tips:
- Refresh your bath towels, hand towels, face washers, bathmats, and robes with the finest plush cotton, or waffle that you can.

Hotel Feel at Home Tip #4
Customisable Comfort
Customise your comfort-level year-round with air conditioning, fans, heaters, and blackout blinds or curtains.
You could even double-glaze your windows if you live in a noisy location.
To achieve an inviting feel, layered lighting is a must. As always, we recommend a combination of ambient, accent, task, and mood lighting, which we cover in-depth in our video titled
“How to Master the Art Of Lighting”.
Remember, warmer light is more intimate, soothing, and personal, so we recommend swapping existing globes for a warm white, or smart light bulb.
A combination of dimmable overhead lighting, wall sconces, table or floor lamps, and LED perimeter lighting on a dimmer will also enhance the feeling of cosiness.
Ensure that the lighting over your bathroom sink is functional and that your mirror is well-lit for grooming.

Little Luxuries
For a sense of fun, brainstorm little luxuries that go the extra mile in infusing moments of joy in your day.
You could set up a designated coffee or tea station in your bedroom, with a Nespresso machine, kettle, a decanter of water and glasses, and a tea tray with a few yummy treats!
Other ideas include:
- A stylish magazine basket with your latest reads.
- A quality pen/pad on your side table to jot down your thoughts.
- An alarm clock, so you can keep your phone out of sight.
- A favourite candle, oil burner, room spray, or pillow spray.
- Bath oils or bubble baths with a bath caddy to rest your book and beverage on.
- Streamlined artwork that complements your style.
- & Fresh greenery or sprigs of fresh flowers.
Consider a wall-hung towel rail or a heated towel rail for total luxury and to aid in the quick drying of towels.

A Warm Welcome
Lastly, many hotels have beautiful well-maintained entrances, including custom doormats, fresh vegetation, stunning floral arrangements, clean windows and doors, and eye-catching hardware.
Could you replicate this at home externally or by creating an intentional and stylish entryway?
